What is a neuropsychological evaluation?

A neuropsychological evaluation is used to obtain information regarding your brain functioning. It is an assessment that shows if you can or cannot perform certain tasks which are associated with brain activity. These functions, such as memory and learning, are instrumental for successful living and coping with daily demands. Input from neuropsychologists is often requested to understand brain-related factors associated with academic problems, decreased performance at work, difficulties in concentration, deficits in memory functioning, and other conditions.

At NNA, our comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation is often combined with a psychological evaluation to specifically address whether impairment in functioning stems primarily from cognitive or emotional factors. Standardized neuropsychological and psychological tests are valuable tools in clarifying problems and in some cases will lead to a diagnosis. In addition, recommendations that conclude the NNA neuropsychological report have the advantage of referring patients for "in house" follow-up services to address personal, educational, or vocational needs.

We have assembled a team of three: two clinical neuropsychologists, Dr. Caterina Cianciulli who specializes in neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents, and Dr. Linda Vincent, who specializes in neuropsychological assessment of adults, from college-age to elders. Our clinical psychologist, Dr. Amanda Mullen, provides psychotherapy, executive functioning treatment, and memory remediation.
