| Neuropsychological Evaluations for
individuals 18 years old and older. Neurological Conditions Individuals with neurological and medical conditions such as head injury, epilepsy, stroke, and cardiovascular disorder are often referred for neuropsychological evaluations. Through a combination of interview and neuropsychological testing, these evaluations provide specific information regarding the current level of cognitive, behavioral, and psychological functioning. Results are used to aid treatment planning, including pharmacological care, and they can be used to chart progress as well as to document a disability.
Developmental Disorders Adults are often referred for neuropsychological evaluation with diagnostic questions related to attention deficit disorder, learning disability, and Asperger’s syndrome. College students and those in the work place find that a neuropsychological evaluation can clarify diagnosis, update records, or serve as documentation for academic or work-related accommodations. An accurate diagnosis regarding these sometimes-confusing developmental conditions can be life-changing because it answers questions and provides direction for change.
Memory Disorders Questions about memory problems can be addressed within a neuropsychological evaluation. Without a comprehensive evaluation, it is sometimes difficult to know if a decline in memory is related to normal ageing, too little sleep, stress, depression, the onset of mild cognitive impairment, or dementia. Understanding the underlying cause of a memory problem is the first step in getting the right kind of treatment.
Cognitive Remediation for Memory Problems At NNA, we offer a unique approach to helping individuals understand and improve their memory. Our structured and practical treatment is tailored to address the physiological, psychological, environmental, and behavioral factors that contribute to mild to moderate memory problems. Through a combination of education, increased awareness, and cognitive remediation, each individual has the opportunity to immediately apply current memory research findings to daily life.
Executive Functioning Treatment People who struggle with executive functioning report problems with planning and organization that impact most aspects of their lives. Such individuals have difficulty identifying their goals and the steps that are necessary to achieve them. They are often late, distracted, overscheduled, and feel guilty about their perceived shortcomings. At NNA, we offer a solution-focused treatment for executive functioning difficulties that addresses the interplay of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral concerns while teaching practical skills to improve daily functioning.
